Metaspec manufactures test specimens used in quality testing by ASTM D4378, which covers electrodeposited coatings of zinc on iron and steel. The production or quality control requirements generally require that the zinc-plated parts be tested for conformance to ASTM B633. However, some parts (due to shape or size) can't be tested. In those cases, the specification describes 'separate specimens' that are plated together with the other parts and then tested at the end of the plating process for conformance.
The following tests in ASTM B633 require test specimens. Click on the test method number for more information about specimens required for each test.
ASTM B633 Separate Test Specimens
Thickness (test per ASTM B487, B499, B504, B567, B568 or B748 as applicable)
ASTM B571 Adhesion
ASTM B117 Corrosion Resistance
ASTM B633 §10.4 Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief (see ASTM B633 separate test specimens)
