Metaspec manufactures test specimens required by military specification MIL-DTL-53131, which covers a lubricating oil used in precision bearings. The grades of synthetic hydrocarbon lubricating oil covered in this specification are known as Grade 4, Grade 6, Grade 9, Grade 14, and Grade 40, and are classified according to their viscosity properties. These lubricating oils are intended for use in the precision bearings of inertial guidance gyros, accelerometers, and other suitable instrument bearing applications.
