ASTM D4501 Block-Shear Test Specimens

Test specimens used in ASTM D4501 (Shear Strength of Adhesive Bonds Between Rigid Substrates by the Block-Shear Method). These specimens can be made from a variety of different materials depending on the test adhesive's end-use application. The specimens are referred to as blocks or plates. ASTM D4501 suggests different sizes for different specimen materials, as follows:
Metal blocks - 1" x 1" x 1/4"
Ferrite or ceramic blocks - 1" x 3/4" x 1/2"
Wood or plastic blocks - 1" x 1" x 1/2"
Glass plates - 3" x 3" x 1/2"
