ASTM D3983 Metal Test Specimens

Metal test specimens used in ASTM D3983 (Measuring Strength and Shear Modulus of Nonrigid Adhesives by the Thick-Adherend Tensile-Lap Specimen). These test specimens (also called adherends) are machined from cold-rolled steel or aluminum alloy bar stock to 20 mm x 20 mm x 150 mm (0.79" x 0.79" x 5.91"), then ground to final thickness of 16 mm (0.63"). Holes are drilled in one end to allow bolt attachment to the test machine grips. Customized test specimens for modified versions of this test method are available on request.
