ASTM D3241 JFTOT Heater Tubes
Metaspec D3241 heater tubes are now officially accepted as equivalent by the ASTM D02 Committee! The committee recently voted to include Metaspec heater tubes in ASTM D3241 Table 2. A footnote will be added to the test method that reads as follows:
The following equipment, heater tube and filter kits, manufactured by Metaspec (www.metaspec.com), 355 Spencer Ln, Suite 1-112, San Antonio, TX USA 78201 was run through the test protocol in RR:D02-1550 and determined as equivalent to the equipment used to develop the test method. These heater tube and filter kits are identical to those marketed by AD Systems (www.adsystems-sa.com), 5, Allée de Cindais, 14320 Saint André sur Orne, France. This test is detailed in RR:D02-xxxx. This is not an endorsement or certification by ASTM International.
Metaspec heater tubes satisfy the requirements of ASTM D3241, the Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Stability Test. ASTM D3241 is designed to detect certain types of impurities in jet fuel that form deposits on the heater tubes. The heater tube is rated visually or using a digital tube rater that measures deposit thickness.
Metaspec tubes have a highly consistent mechanical surface finish. This consistent surface finish makes it easy for operators to rate the tubes either visually or using digital tube raters. Thousands of tests have been conducted at laboratories around the world. A large-scale ASTM Interlaboratory Study (ILS) established that Metaspec tubes provide statistically equivalent results to other brands whether rated visually or digitally.
Metaspec D3241 heater tubes are drop-in compatible with all brands and models of D3241 test instruments, visual tube raters and digital tube raters.
Heater tubes are sold in a pack of ten. Each heater tube comes with a filter and 3 O-rings for use in the test. The heater tubes are serial-numbered and ready for use in the laboratory.
JFTOT is a registered trademark of Petroleum Analyzer Company, L.P. (PAC). It is also a generic acronym for "Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Test". Metaspec is not affiliated with PAC.
