ASTM D1002 Lap Shear Test Specimens
Lap shear test specimens used in ASTM D1002 (Apparent Shear Strength of Single-Lap-Joint Adhesively Bonded Metal Specimens by Tension Loading - Metal-to-Metal). This test measures the apparent shear strengths of adhesives for bonding metals. Two test specimens of the same size and material are overlapped on one end by a specific amount, then bonded together with glue or adhesive.
ASTM D1002 test specimens can be prepared for testing individually or as two panels of five specimens overlapped (ten total). The test specimens are usually 0.062" thick, but this can vary depending on the material or alloy. The individual test specimens are 1" x 4"; the panel of five test specimens measures 4" x 7".
