440C Stainless Steel Test Specimens

Metaspec makes test panels, specimens, coupons, and catalysts from 440C stainless steel (also known as 440C tool steel or UNS S44004). 440C stainless steel has the highest carbon content of the 400 series of stainless alloys.

These test specimens are made in a range of different sizes, thicknesses, and surface finishes. Standard test panel sizes include 1/2" x 3", 1" x 2", 1" x 4", and 2" x 4". Customized test panels and specimens are available on request.

Test panels can be machined from plate or bar material. A wide range of sizes and thickness are available, including panels as thin as 0.032 inch. This process leaves some visible machining marks on the surface instead of an ‘as rolled’ surface finish.

An additional polishing process can smooth out the machining marks on the faces of the test panel and is available upon request. Machined test panels are interleaved or packed individually to prevent surface scratches.
