1050 Steel Test Panels

Regular test panels are cut to size, deburred, and packed in bundles with a light oil to prevent corrosion.  These panels may have some minor surface defects and will have mill oil on the surface, as these are the sheets in “as-received” condition from the mill.

Premium panels are cut to size, deburred, and then carefully inspected to ensure that at least one as-rolled side has zero detectable surface scratches or oxidation. Metaspec's standard is that if a visible scratch can be detected with a fingernail, then that side of the panel is not premium grade.  The reverse side of the panel may have some detectable scratches – premium panels are only premium on one side, not both.  The panels are wiped and cleaned on both sides with solvent per ASTM D609 to remove mill oil and fingerprints.  The panels are packed in bundles with a light oil to prevent corrosion. Most Metaspec customers prefer our premium panels, but this high level of surface condition is not necessary for some applications.

Premium panels may also be polished or sanded on one or both sides, offering an even higher level of surface finish quality. Other services, including holes, stamping, or serializing, are available on request.
